Meet HollyBeth of HollyBeth Organics

Hello EcoDivas! Welcome back to our exclusive Behind the Beauty series where we give you an insider's look at what goes on behind the scenes of our favorite brands. We're so happy to introduce you to our newest skincare line, HollyBeth OrganicsHBO was born from a culmination of founder HollyBeth Anderson’s life experiences—from growing up in the mountains of Georgia surrounded by the wonders of nature, to soaking up the organic lifestyle while living in parts of the world known for natural healing. Her interest in the curative properties of plants began early on under the tutelage of her grandmother, who taught HollyBeth all about the medicinal properties of native plants on their walks in the Georgia woods.

What we love, aside from the phenomenonal skin results, is that the entire line is USDA Organic Certified. It's rare that a whole line will take that plunge, and it proves that HollyBeth and her team are dedicated to providing the highest quality ingredients and delivering them straight to your skin. Read on for more about the effcient line, and to get a FREE gift from HBO!

Tell us the origin story of HollyBeth Organics.

Until eight years ago, I was traveling the globe and living abroad for business. While living in Spain, a friend’s mother told me that I should always apply cream under the eye (one of the first areas to show the signs of aging). That was eons ago! After years of collecting eye creams and not finding the perfect one, I decided to make my own and voila, I created my first product. My passion for quality skin care evolved into a business. I truly never in a zillion years thought I would be doing this full time. I intended to continue doing international mergers/acquisitions while having this as a side business that would help create a foundation for children. Life takes you on some interesting twist and turns.

What’s your favorite product from the line? Why?

Just one? :) The Grits & Honey Scrub is dear to my heart as my mother inspired its creation. As a child I remember her using cornmeal as an exfoliant. Later in my years I asked her about it, and she suggested adding grits to it. We created the Grits & Honey Scrub together.

My Rose Geranium Face Moisturizer, one of my best-sellers, is probably my favorite to use. It sinks right into my skin without leaving an oily residue.

What has changed most in the green beauty industry since you started HollyBeth Organics?

Oh my, so much! I remember when we were considering being organic certified. I happened to be in Denver at a conference and met a lady who was certified. I remember her telling me the trials and tribulations of the process, and I was a tad intimated. But for six years, we have been certified with the annual audit.

What has changed is twofold. Concerning “organic,” we have a very educated audience who knows the difference, as well as an audience who is on overload with all the new accreditations coming out now. When we first began, there were not many USDA Organic Certified companies (HollyBeth Organics is still the only 100% USDA Organic Certified skin care line in Georgia), and it amazes me how many people have the term “organic” in their company who could never be certified. My point is there is too much miscommunication. Either you are certified organic or you are not. Unfortunately, too many companies are not able to be certified; therefore, they determine the designation is not illustrious and claim to be more than organic… which boggles my mind. Either the land and farmers are certified or not. I could go off on a much longer tangent but I’m getting away from your question: what has changed. Greenwashing still exists, chemicals still exist. I just try to practice what I preach by creating the most effective, clean, nontoxic products available.

What stands out about HollyBeth Organics?

We are honest about our ingredients, and you can trust what is in our products. We took the steps needed to assure customers that what they are putting on their body is USDA Organic Certified. The most effective, cleanest, highest quality ingredients.

Why is it important for us to be concerned about what we’re putting on our skin?

The old adage “you are what you eat” applies to our skin, the largest organ on the body.

How do you power up in the morning? How do you get energized?

COFFEE! I also have two rescue dogs that weigh almost as much I do who wake me up. I’ve always been a morning person. I used to be a big marathoner, so I was up at the crack of dawn running… please note the past tense. :) Now, as it is so hard to run with two mutts dragging me, I am not running as much—but I do exercise. I have to go outside every a.m. for calmness. I tend to be a workaholic and being outside in my gazebo puts everything in perspective.

If you could share one piece of advice for holistic living, what would it be?

This is a good question. I think it would be to get outside more. Nature is my cure all for everything. Lately I have been guilty of too much computer and cell time, and I’m not good at taking vacations. Being outside is my get away. I am blessed that I have a large backyard that backs up to 80 acres of greenery. Deer, coyote, king fisher, rabbits, etc.

What are your top three must-have beauty products right now?
