Saving Face With A Sweet Clementine Enzyme Mask
One of the best things you can do as you prepare your skin for winter is take advantage of the season's petite yet potent clementine. This early winter gem is rich in citric acid, which can brighten your complexion and stimulate a healthy glow reminiscent of those dewy, summer days.
Known as "Seedless Tangerines" and the "Winter Citrus," the clementine belongs to the mandarin family. Easy to peel with a thick, glossy skin, this juicy, zesty fruit is rich in a variety of key nutrients, including phosphorous, calcium and magnesium, but like other citrus fruits, it's best known for its significant amounts of antixodant vitamin C.
Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) plays a vital role in the synthesis of collagen, which is essential for maintaining healthy skin. It also helps protect the skin against UV damage and revitalizes aging skin, but most importantly it supports your beauty regimen's most crucial step: prevention. Vitamin C helps reduce the formation of wrinkles, prevents blemishes and fights inflammation.
Although they’re tart and acidic, they also contain essential alkaline minerals that are key to helping balance the body after digestion. Studies have shown that citrus fruits help prevent cancer, lower cholesterol and boost heart health, among numerous other benefits. You can start enjoying the benefits of clementines by adding them to your daily juice or smoothie, or simply eating them piece-by-piece as an energy-boosting afternoon snack.
