Ethical Guide to Reusable Beauty Products

When it comes to eco-friendly beauty products, we generally concern ourselves mainly with the ingredients being both good for us and for the planet. But one other way that we can all leave a smaller environmental footprint, that often gets looked over, is choosing reusable and refillable beauty products! If you think about it, we generate quite a bit of waste each day from using single-use products (think cotton balls!) or from tossing out used cosmetic containers.

So in this post, I'd like to share with you all my top reusable product picks from EcoDiva Beauty that you can easily incorporate into your daily routine. You'll not only be helping the planet, but you'll also end up saving money in the long run from not having to keep buying disposable beauty products!

Most of us probably use disposable plastic razors, but sadly, that's a lot of plastic that just ends up in a landfill after a couple uses (especially the disposable plastic razors without replaceable razor attachments since we end up tossing the entire thing!). One awesome and undoubtedly more gorgeous alternative to your typical plastic razor is a metal razor with replaceable blades. Pictured here is the

Charlotte Razor Set in Neroli from Oui Shave

The Charlotte Razor Set comes with this gold-plated razor, an Oui Shave Oil in the scent of your choice, and a second refill cartridge as well. This one here is in the Neroli scent, which has citrus notes and is also quite calming. The added weight of a metal razor combined with shave oil gives a really close shave; I'm definitely not switching back to to disposable razors after trying these! And when you need more blades, you can buy the refill cartridges in packs of 10 here.

When I remove my makeup at night, I used to go through 1 or 2 cotton balls or cotton pads each time. It doesn't seem like much at first but if you think about how many you go through in a year, that's easily hundreds and hundreds of them! Plus, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks it's also kind of annoying to keep buying bags of cotton balls.

The Organic Muslin Face Cloth 3-Pack from Mel Millis is a wonderful reusable alternative to disposable cotton products for cleansing your face and removing your makeup. They open up to pretty substantial 12" by 12" squares so they are large enough that you can use a new section every day to remove your makeup, and at the end of the week, just toss it in with the rest of your laundry.

These cloths are made of organic cotton muslin too so they are much better for your skin compared to traditional bleached cotton balls or cotton pads.

Now for some refillable cosmetics! Of all the types of refillable cosmetics I've encountered over the years, I had never seen a refillable mascara before so I was pretty excited to try the Refillable Organic Mascara from Kjaer Weis!
Basically how this works is the metal part of the mascara tube acts as a type of "case" so when you have used all of the mascara up, you can take out the inner black tube and wand, both of which are recyclable! The refills come in recycled paper cartons as well.
The mascara is made from organic and nourishing ingredients and it gives a very defined look that is perfect for everyday wear. :) On a more random note, this mascara is the first one which I can say smells amazing too! It has a lovely rose scent.

I personally think this Refillable Organic Eyeshadow in "Onyx" from Kjaer Weis is in object of art in itself! The metal compact has a really nice luxurious feel and weight to it, and it slides open to reveal the eye shadow cartridge of your choice.

When you've used up all the eyeshadow, simply pop the cartridge out (which is magnetized to the compact) and order a new refill! No need to toss out the entire compact. These eyeshadows are CCPB Certified Organic and are free from artificial ingredients. The eyeshadows also contain natural ingredients like bamboo and gardenia extract which help to nourish the delicate skin on your lids. Did I mention that Onyx is one of the colors that is vegan too?

Every little bit we can contribute to help reduce our impact on the earth counts. Not to mention, you'll likely inspire others around you to start saying no to single-use and/or disposable products and that's always a good thing! Plus, from the beautiful designs of these reusable and refillable beauty products alone, who can really resist?
